Gwent Beekeepers CIO is an active group with around 200 members, ranging from hobbyists to bee farmers, covering the area of Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent and Caerphilly.

We offer a programme of monthly lectures over the winter months and monthly sessions at the association apiary during the summer, in addition to regular newsletters, social events and training courses.

During the winter, meetings take the form of informative lectures, practical microscope sessions or social events. Lectures are held on the second Thursday of the month starting at 7.30 pm. During COVID-19 lockdowns these lectures are being delivered online using Zoom. As soon as we are allowed we will be organising face to face meetings at the New Study Centre where tea and coffee will be available at the end of the session, when people will be able to exchange their news and views. Non-members are welcome to attend these meetings.

Throughout the beekeeping season, a monthly meeting is held at the association apiary when work appropriate to the season is carried out. Extra sessions may be necessary, which are advertised in the monthly newsletter. There are special 'Taster Sessions' for prospective beekeepers, who may also attend apiary meetings by arrangement. Beesuits are available for visitors and beginners. Apiary sessions offer an excellent opportunity for experienced beekeepers to share their wisdom and for new beekeepers to gain practical experience.

Annual General Meeting

Once a year, there is an association dinner, which is held in October.

The AGM is normally held on the third Saturday afternoon of November. In previous years it was held at the Goytre Village Hall, but now we have our own premises the AGM will be held at the Holden Apiary and Study Centre.
