Monmouthshire's Bees: What do we know?
This talk will explore the world of solitary bees, from what makes them unique to the lives of the different species we have here in Monmouthshire and explore the work of the Bees of Monmouthshire Recording Project. Understanding our local populations through recording is vitally important to conserve them and we are excited to help you to get involved!
Ciaran Clark from Bees for Development will deliver his lecture at the Holden Apiary and Study Centre.
Doors will open at 7pm and the lecture will start at 7:30pm
If you can't make it to the Study Centre then we will stream on a zoom meeting. Please follow the link to pre-book your zoom meeting link.
Ciaran's Message:
Ciaran's message:
'I’ve always been a keen naturalist, but the world of insects is something I’ve only really explored in the last few years. I spent my time at university in Bristol studying vertebrate palaeontology and evolutionary theory and even chose not to take classes on insect biology.
Then after university and during lockdown house-arrest, I discovered a love for macrophotography and a garden that was filled with a great variety of bee species. I was surprised by their diversity and found myself learning identification skills, researching their life histories, habitats and behaviours and surveying whenever I could. This led to role with Bees for Development and the beginning of the Bees of Monmouthshire Recording Project'
Bumblebees
We often get asked about Bumble Bees nests. Please take a look at this link for further information:
Wasps, Hornets and other pests
GBKCIO do not offer a service for the removal of wasps, hornets or other pests.

Monmouthshire County Council stopped their pest control services back in 2014.
Yellow Pages has the details and numbers of a number of Pest and Vermin control compaines.
Unfortunatly GBKCIO can not endorse any of the services or Companies listed.
